Advanced Instructor Course

The Advanced Instructor Course (Level 3) consists of a 40-hour Phase I and a 16-hour Phase II. These sessions build on the foundational skills obtained in the earlier levels while ensuring students know how to correctly document curriculum for training integrity, instructor succession planning and agency risk management purposes. The class is specifically designed to integrate the skills for effective instruction and curriculum design, while ensuring the highest quality learning environment for students.

Instruction involves the use of a computer, so a personal laptop with the ability to access files on a thumb drive, Microsoft Word and email is required. If you only have agency email and cannot access it while in travel status, please establish a free email account prior to attendance (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.).

Target Audience: Course attendees are limited to personnel currently training, or developing training for, California public safety personnel (law enforcement, public safety dispatchers, professional staff in a public safety environment). The Government Training Agency verifies eligibility of students and reserves the right to refuse entrance.

Topics will include:

• Developing course goals, performance tasks and diverse learning environments
• Designing and developing lesson plans and learning activities to align with course goals and verify student learning
• Experiential and outcomes-based learning environments
• Developing effective questions to facilitate critical thinking in the classroom
• Enhancing instructional facilitation and presentation skills
• Creation of a complete POST certification package

Course Prerequisites:

The following prerequisite has been established as a minimum baseline for students attending this course:

1. Successful completion of the Basic Instructor Course, Academy Instructor Certification Course (AICC), ICI Instructor (ICII) or an equivalency.
2. Successful completion of the Intermediate Instructor Course

Course Fee Information: 

Reimbursement Plan IV: There is no tuition for POST reimbursable agencies. Travel reimbursement via Training Reimbursement Request (TRR).

Non-Reimbursable agencies: Tuition is $425.14. There is no reimbursement for travel and per diem.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received more than ten (10) business days prior to the start of the class will not be charged. If payment has already been made, it will be refunded. Cancellations received ten (10) or less business days before the start of the class will be charged at full price. This late cancellation charge compensates GTA for the non-refundable costs incurred prior to the start date of the course.

No Shows: A No Show on the day of the class will result in a full charge for the class.
