Course Description

This course is an introduction to the Internet and the social media phenomenon. The class will address the more popular social media websites such as Facebook. The course will also touch other websites such as Craigslist and YouTube. Participants will also be introduced to the online gaming community and how it is important to law enforcement (Cyberbullying). The purpose of this course is to give law enforcement officers the tools needed to investigate crimes where Internet usage occurs, and find leads associated with such occurrences. Investigators will learn about the many uses of undercover personas and accounts. At the conclusion, the student will have an introduction to social media search and telecommunication search warrants. The student will need to bring a laptop with Wi-Fi capabilities. If the laptop is a department laptop, please ensure that it can access the Internet with no restrictions.

PARTICIPATING AGENCIES & TARGET AUDIENCE: All personnel whose duty it is to investigate any crime that may have connection to the Internet and related technology based incidents. Potential is for all LE related persons.

Course Fee Information: $159

Reimbursement Plan III: Tuition for POST reimbursable agencies is $159. While tuition, student travel and per diem reimbursement are normally reimbursable via Training Reimbursement Request (TRR) for this course, POST has temporarily suspended tuition and travel reimbursement for all POST Plan III courses, with the exception of contract classes and those outlined in Attachment A of the POST Bulletin No. 2017-01. This course is not listed as an exempt course.
Non-Reimbursable Agencies: Tuition is $159. No reimbursement for travel and per diem.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received more than ten (10) business days prior to the start of the class will not be charged. If payment has already been made, it will be refunded. Cancellations received ten (10) or less business days before the start of the class will be charged at full price. This late cancellation charge compensates RTC for the non-refundable costs incurred prior to the start date of the course.
No ShowsA No Show on the day of the class will result in a full charge for the class.
