Course Description

This 3-day course compliments the Supervisor’s Academy and focuses in greater detail on managing smaller, highly interactive teams. Supervisory work includes direct management of individuals, and while a supervisor may be responsible for many employees, in most cases supervisors manage small teams who perform at their best when everyone is in sync. This course would benefit managers, supervisors, team leaders, and professional staff members who are in supervisory positions, managing small, high performance teams. The Supervisor’s Academy or Team Management are both very informative and can be taken concurrently or as stand-alone courses.

The Team Management course provides specific training in the following areas:

  • Team Characteristics: Generational Issues (Different expectations, managing millennials)
  • Personality Characteristics of team members; and influences of the team on the individual (and vice versa)
  • Team Decision Making: how teams make decisions; influences involved in making team decisions; and decision making strengths and weaknesses
  • Effective Team Management: Employee burnout and motivation; effective communication skills; and motivational interviewing

This is an interactive course where students will provide “Real World” examples of managing teams. Students benefit from experiences their counterparts bring to the classroom. The course ends with each student developing a Team Management Strategy, which can be used immediately after the course.
